Bio
Gerry Altamirano is a Culture & Community Alchemist, speaker, and thought partner whose work explores the intersection of belonging, work, leadership, and human dignity. He is currently Director of Culture & Community Impact at AMN Healthcare, where he leads strategies focused on team member experience, employee listening, recognition, community impact, and belonging.Throughout his career, Gerry has been guided by a simple yet enduring question: What helps people thrive? His work has spanned education, counseling, disability inclusion, higher education leadership, organizational culture, and community engagement, giving him a unique perspective on how individuals, institutions, and communities shape one another.Prior to joining AMN Healthcare, Gerry served as an Inclusion Strategist with Tangible Development, partnering with organizations to strengthen culture, belonging, and inclusive leadership practices. He also served as Assistant Dean and Director of the Disability Resource Center at the University of Florida, where he led university-wide accessibility and disability inclusion efforts, and previously held leadership roles in academic accommodations at Texas State University.Gerry's academic background reflects his lifelong pursuit of understanding human behavior, identity, and social systems. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from The University of Texas at Arlington, a master's degree in Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling from UT Southwestern Medical Center, and completed graduate studies in Curriculum & Instruction at the University of Florida with a specialization in Critical Studies in Race, Ethnicity, and Culture.A first-generation Mexican American, native Spanish speaker, and passionate advocate for access and opportunity, Gerry brings both professional expertise and lived experience to his work. He is passionate about how people make meaning of their lives, how workplaces influence our wellbeing, and what becomes possible when individuals are given the space to contribute, grow, and thrive without leaving essential parts of themselves behind.Beyond his professional work, Gerry serves on the Board of Directors for Resource Center, one of the nation's largest LGBTQ+ community organizations, and as Vice President of the Board of Directors for REACH of Dallas, supporting independent living and opportunity for people with disabilities across North Texas.At the heart of Gerry's work is a belief that workplaces, communities, and relationships flourish when people are treated with dignity, care, and humanity.
